Yannick Lierman as a Person

Yannick Lierman is a sensitive individual with a deeply rooted interest in what truly moves people. Although emotions were given little space during her childhood, it was precisely this hidden emotional layer that continued to fascinate her. Inspired by books and films with powerful emotional stories, she developed an early intuitive ability to look beyond façades and recognize people’s true feelings.

For Yannick, life is all about connection. She believes that genuine connection does not arise from rational thinking, but from the heart, intuition, and emotions. By embracing her own emotions and giving them space, she discovered the power of authentic relationships. For her, this forms the foundation of a fulfilling life: connection with yourself and with the people around you.

The Beginning of Yannick’s Coaching Journey

Yannick’s career as a coach began nearly 30 years ago, following an unexpected turning point in her personal life. What started as a step toward therapy evolved into a life-changing experience. Initially skeptical, she soon discovered the power and value of the process. Encouraged by her therapist, Yannick took the next step: enrolling in a professional training program.

Her passion for personal growth quickly found a professional platform when she started working as a trainer at Colruyt. There, she guided employees in their personal development and immediately felt at home in this role. Since then, Yannick has further expanded her expertise and now works with companies and individuals around the world, offering coaching, training programs, and team facilitation. What once began as a personal journey grew into a mission to inspire and guide others.

Emotional Intelligence as the Key to Authentic Connection

For Yannick, emotional intelligence is much more than a skill; it is a way of life. It includes the ability to recognize, understand, and manage your own emotions, while also being able to perceive and respond to the emotions of others. Because humans are naturally emotional beings, it is essential not to lose touch with these emotions. Emotional intelligence helps you gain control over your feelings instead of being controlled by them.

What makes emotional intelligence particularly powerful is that it is not necessarily an innate trait. It is a skill that anyone can learn and develop. It begins with giving yourself the space to feel your emotions and becoming aware of them. This process requires practice, authenticity, and the courage to embrace vulnerability. For Yannick, EQ is not only an essential skill but also a key to deeper empathy, meaningful connections, and personal strength — both in daily life and in professional contexts.

Emotional Intelligence as the Foundation of Human-Centered Leadership

In a world where technology and AI are becoming increasingly dominant, Yannick sees emotional intelligence (EQ) as an indispensable skill for leaders and teams. EQ plays a crucial role in strengthening communication, fostering empathy, and effectively regulating stress. It enables leaders to create a positive work environment where conflicts are addressed constructively and teams can perform at their best.

Unfortunately, EQ is still often seen as a “soft skill” and therefore considered less important than technical abilities. However, Yannick emphasizes that EQ is a fundamental capability that not only contributes to achieving results but also to building sustainable relationships within organizations. In a world increasingly shaped by digitalization, the human connection created through EQ provides an essential counterbalance.

For Yannick, emotional intelligence is the skill that allows leaders and teams not only to navigate complex environments but also to grow and thrive in the long term. It is the key to future-oriented, human-centered leadership.

"Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom."
Aristoteles

The Role of Coaches and Organizations in Promoting EQ

According to Yannick, coaches play a crucial role in strengthening emotional intelligence in both individuals and teams. This process begins with awareness: recognizing and understanding one’s own emotions as well as those of others. By using systemic approaches and practical tools, coaches can guide people in developing greater empathy and self-awareness. This not only leads to stronger relationships but also to improved team dynamics.

For organizations, she believes it is essential to make emotional intelligence as fundamental as basic skills such as reading and writing. Developing EQ is a valuable investment that delivers immediate benefits in the form of better collaboration, more effective communication, and well-considered decision-making. By giving EQ a structural place within their culture and way of working, organizations can lay the foundation for a more successful and more connected future.
