As part of my Masterclass in Team Coaching, I had the privilege of participating in a particularly engaging and insightful exchange during a Reflective Supervision session. The method and approach were new to me, which is why I’d like to share my experience: it’s an incredibly enriching way to gain deeper awareness of our (consciously or unconsciously) adopted approaches while coaching.

Reflective Supervision offers significant added value compared to the more familiar method of intervision, as it allows us to explore multiple layers. Specifically, we look through four different lenses at the coach’s actions, behavior, background, and relationships.

When discussing my case, we were able—together with the facilitators and participants—to truly dive deep into why I had adopted a certain attitude in a given situation. Blind spots I hadn’t been aware of also came to light.

I would unreservedly recommend every practicing coach to try out the Reflective Supervision method and to use it regularly. It helps you stay sharp, self-aware, and up to date in your coaching practice.
